Alliance for Girls
Think Globally. Act Locally.
Alliance for Girls is a girl-centered, community-based partnership of organizations and individuals committed to assessing and addressing girls’ needs and helping girls reach their potential. Alliance for Girls believes girl development is community development and that everyone benefits when girls are able to thrive. Inspired by the United Nations Fourth World Conference on Women held in Beijing, China in 1995, Alliance for Girls is a local response to a global platform for action for equality, development, and peace.
Alliance for Girls achieves its mission in the following ways:
- Acting as an advocate for girls
- Developing long-term, community-wide initiatives to address gaps in services for girls
- Providing information about programs and services to assist girls
- Encouraging and sponsoring gender-specific research to determine the status of girls
- Fostering leadership opportunities for girls
- Creating mentoring opportunities for girls
- Engaging in and fostering other charitable and educational activities
The major programming initiative of Alliance for Girls is Louisville Girls Leadership (LGL). LGL is a leadership development and advocacy program for high school girls in Louisville, Kentucky. In LGL, girls have an opportunity to come together from all areas of Louisville Metro to develop skills and alliances that will enable them to become visionary community leaders. Leadership sessions focus on leadership development, advocacy, technology training, and civic engagement.
